​​​Drawing The Human Figure For Kids
Saturday, February 17
Age 6-9: 10 am – noon
Age 10-12: 1 pm – 3 pm


At this class students will learn to draw the human figure through some gesture and contour drawing, as well as get some knowledge about the human body proportions. If you wish to draw someone you know, feel free to bring a reference photo.

Kids Painting Workshop - 8 Sessions

“Paint like Picasso”
 
This series of workshops is designed to help young artists explore the unique properties of acrylic paints. Each week we will look at the work of a well-known artist and discuss the ideas and techniques used. Following this the young artists will create their own pieces incorporating some of what was learned. As we go along, the elements of form (line, shape, colour and texture) will be introduced through directed exercises and through free expression. The students will be introduced to acrylic paint and mediums, composition, colour mixing, blending and brushstrokes, all while having a ton of creative fun!

Try something new in this exciting workshop! Alcohol Ink is a medium that flows creating swirling images and brilliant detailed unique art. You will learn the fundamentals of how to use alcohol ink on different surfaces, and instruction on how to finish and seal your pieces at home.

​​Drawing Media for Kids – Conté Crayon
PRO D DAY

Friday, February 23rd
Age 6-9: 10 am – noon
Age 10-12: 1 pm – 3 pm


Invented in France in 1795 by Nicolas-Jacques Conté for drawing and sketching, the Conté crayon has been used by many of the world’s greatest artists, including Picasso, Delacroix, and Degas. Through some fun exercises kids will discover the unique properties and vivid, rich colors of this fascinating medium.

Aimed at developing self-expression and creativity, this course will give students an opportunity to explore different techniques of

mark-making with point and line while being inspired by music, color, emotions and more.

The fun continues using Alcohol Ink.   This class will introduce you to using different tools and techniques on surfaces.

​​Portrait Drawing For Kids
Saturday, February 3

This class will focus on portrait pencil drawing, both profile and frontal view. Through exercises, students will learn about proportions of the human head and face and leave the class with a portrait. If you wish to draw a portrait of someone you know, feel free to bring a photo for reference.

​​Drawing Media For Kids – Charcoal

Charcoal is sometimes viewed as a preliminary medium for sketching or drawing before painting. Dramatic, rich markings made with charcoal are mesmerizing and won’t leave anyone indifferent. Students are invited to explore this versatile and one of the oldest art media, and create a fun project with it.

Beginner 4 Week Adult Drawing Class

Fridays: March 2, 9, 16 & 23

10:00-12:00


Explore mark making while learning basic drawing skills.
Sessions will focus on line, shape, color and texture. Participants will explore  a
variety of mediums while completing some fun individual and group exercises.
Each student will receive their own sketchbook and a basic drawing kit to keep.

​​Beginner Adult Watercolor 1 Day Workshop
Saturday, February 10th; 9-3 pm
​(Pack a lunch or snack!)

Begin your artistic journey into the world of watercolors with no drawing or painting experience necessary! This class is designed for people who have never painted before or for people who would like to gain more knowledge. Come and explore basic watercolor techniques through simple projects and hands-on demonstrations. Topics included in the course are color theory, color mixing, washes, texture applications, and understanding value. 
Materials: Most are included (you will receive a couple of basic brushes to keep!)
A few things to bring: palette (flat area to mix- bucket lid would work), kneadable eraser, HB Pencil & Kleenex
You may bring any painting materials you have, but this is not necessary.

Instructor: Mike Moyer is a graduate of the Fine Arts program at the Thompson River University of Kamloops, BC. He is a talented artist who has worked in a number of disciplines, but his focus lately has been creating fine art paintings in watercolour and acrylic along with commercial projects and illustrating adult and children’s books. Mike is passionate about bringing the joy of creating art through drawing and painting to other people. His bright personality, experience makes him a great instructor.

Art History Evening Classes

Tuesdays 6:30-8:00


Three time periods  in art history will be covered,  6 classes for each section. You do not have to sign up for all three, but it is recommended.


Art History Part One:

January 23, 30, Feb 6, 13, 20, 27
Discover why and how the earliest people created their sculptures and paintings. Explore the incredible art form of the Egyptians. How did the pyramids come to be? What unlocked the mysteries of the hieroglyphs? Why are the creations of the Greeks and Romans cornerstones of so much which has happened over the centuries?
Listen to the stories, understand the incredibly beautiful artwork.

Art History Part Two:

March 6, 13, 20, 27, April 3, 10
Building on Part One, we will explore the developing art work through centuries, looking at the work of masters of their craft like Giotto,Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Botticelli, Rembrandt, David, Ingres.
We will connect their artwork to what was going on in their cultures, looking at style and meaning.

Cost: $200.00 plus gst

Art History Part Three:

April 17, 24, May 1, 8, 15, 22
The second half of the 1800s saw an incredible break from traditional art traditions. We call them the Impressionists. We will look at why they were not considered serious artists at first and understand the profound impact they had on the development of the art of the 20th century. We will travel through the 20th century and examine the exciting changes to style, artforms and even technology.
